NOTE: This quilt-a-long has wrapped up. If you are looking for the full set of embroidery patterns and quilt assembly instructions, please visit the final post {here}.

As I was sketching out my initial designs for this quilt, this one tended to be my least favorite. As a matter of fact, before I actually began embroidering it, I really contemplated discarding this design and coming up with another.

But as I made decisions regarding how these blocks were to be stitched, this block really started to grow on me. Especially once I stitched the sunflowers (my all-time favorite flowers)!

I really love the texture that the French knots add to this block. When I created these designs, I tried to incorporate similar elements throughout the quilt. You'll notice that there isn't just one block with a sunflower, nor is there one kitty, one strawberry, or one bunny. There is also more than one block that has clover and clover blossoms. Like I've previously stated, I tried to think of things that naturally would be associated with bees. And one of the most common types of honey you'll see in stores (At least in the US, anyway. I've never been outside the states, so I don't know what's available elsewhere) is clover honey.

I've also chosen to incorporate wool into Block 12 as well. I dunno about you, but filling in the hive entrance, which is rather large compared to other satin stitched components of this quilt, didn't really sound all that fun to me. LOL.

The stitches and methods I've used throughout this quilt are quite basic, as I wanted it to be appealing to  beginners and experienced stitchers alike. But when I look at this block, I think it presents you with opportunity to really make it your own. Throughout social media, I've really seen some of our fellow stitchers take off with creative ideas for these blocks. So if you don't want to stick to my designs, or you want to take creative liberties, go ahead! I encourage it!!! Just don't forget to share them! I love seeing your work. If you're sharing on Instagram, make sure to use the hashtags #beeutifulqal, #beegrateful, and #summersewingcamp.

You can download the PDF pattern for this block {here}. And, if you're having trouble with any of the stitches or techniques used, you can visit my YouTube page for tutorials. Or, if you haven't already, join our Facebook group. It's a really great community, and you'll be sure to find all the support you need to complete this quilt-a-long with ease.

I'll see you tomorrow for Block 13! Until then, happy stitching!
