Blockheads ~ Block 40
Blockheads ~ Block 40
Forty! The big 4-0. We are 83% of the way done!
This is Block 40 - Cardinal. Designed by Jan Patek, stitched by Tammy Vonderschmitt. Tammy used one of the best shirting-backgrounds ever - from Primitive Gatherings' Floral Gatherings. The birds and berry are French General, the star is from Wild Orchid by Blackbird Designs, the leaves are from Kansas Troubles, and the Branch is from Primitive Gatherings' Homespun Gatherings. Tammy loves scrappy - the scrappier the better!

As for me... I'm behind. I had to get blocks pieced for "something else" and while I've got some of my pieces "prepped"... that's as far as I've gotten. But next week - I'll get caught up and show you all the blocks I've missed! (I think there are at least a dozen of them.)
Question of the Week ~ Do you decorate with quilts for the Holidays? Are they color-themed, or do they include holiday motifs and fabrics?
Both! I have quilts made with Christmas collections, and quilts that are more color-scheme. (Please forgive the poor-lighting photos - I should have taken these when it was sunny outside instead of overcast and gray.)
Tone It Down from American Patchwork's February 2014 issue - but rumor has it that this pattern will be in a book in a few months. French General scrappy - lots of Kaari's wonderful cream prints.
My Christmas math mistake. My Mom wanted a Christmas quilt using a specific fabric for alternating squares. Done. So I'm busy making hundreds of little nine-patches - these finish at 2-1/4" - and it occurs to me that I have a lot. A LOT. So I checked my calculations and I had doubled the number of units I needed for each nine-patch! Instead of having enough strips and pieces cut and assembled for the 400-something nine-patches I needed for my Mom's quilt... I had enough pieces for almost 800 nine-patches. Two quilts! And they're different. That green "ribbon print" - Debbie Mumm.
Also French General fabrics - two Layer Cakes of Lumiere de Noel and a twist on the McGuffey quilt from Schnibbles Times Two.
The others that are somewhere in my apartment are...
My original Toulouse made with 3 Sisters' Maison de Noel / Zuzu's Petals made with Robyn Pandolph's Folk Art Wedding Christmas II / Thimbleblossoms' Round and Round made with scraps from a couple of Kate Spain Christmas collections, and Camille's Lollies made with Kate's Jingle.
