It's time to add a little  "Sparkle" for you holiday countdown!  A star in a star block is a traditional favorite of mine. Hope it becomes one of yours too.

For cutting this block my favorite rulers are by Creative Grids which include the Eights markings on the ruler.

Instructions

  1. To stitch the center star. First join the D light green triangles with the C dark green triangles to form 4- flying geese units.
  2.  Add 2 - E squares to each side of 2 - flying geese units. Press toward the corner squares.
  3.  Join 2 flying geese units to the center square. Press seams toward the center.
  4.  To the center unit, add the 2 - flying geese with the corner squares. Nest the seams & pin, stitch, press toward the center square. The center star block will measure 9" X 9".

  1. Next we need to follow the same process to make the 4 - large flying geese units using the A light pink fabric and the B dark pink fabric.
  2. This time to the sides of 2 - flying geese units add the B light pink triangles.

3. Stitch 2 - flying geese units to the center star. Nesting the seams, add the 2- flying geese with the attached triangles. Press.

4. Lay the block on point, center and pin the 4 - A- dark pink triangles on the light pink of the 4- flying geese units.  It helps to finger press the triangle, and the flying geese unit in half to find the center points, then pin to the block for stitching.

5. Give your block a final press and trim for the unfinished block sizes of 18.5 or 12.5.
