MMQAL- Week 11

Time has flown by, and we are now on Week 11.

Darting Birds + Nonsense are the blocks for this week's QAL.

MMQAL- week-11

Nonsense – Fabric choice can make or break this block, so here are a few tips we discovered as we made these blocks.

- Caution on fabric choice, non-directional small tonal or florals work well. Directional, geometric, or large-scale prints don’t work as well. You want the 2 HST to look like a flying geese unit, and the seam does not show up as much as it does with the gingham or cat print shown here.

Using the large floral, you don’t notice the break of the units like you do with the directional candy corn.

Darting Birds – fun, easy block – 2 HST to make a flying geese unit helps form the petal section.

Part of the fun of doing QALs with such a variety of blocks is that you are added blocks to your library of patterns. Each design can be used for future quilts in different fabrics, mixing and matching blocks and layouts. We always look at a block and imagine how else it could be used. An example would be that this block set on point would make a fun flower quilt block.

If you're on Instagram and/or Facebook, we'll be sharing blocks using the hashtag - #modamidnightmoonqal.

We'll see you next Saturday!
