Welcome to the Moda Website!
Hello QuiltCon 2018!
Hello QuiltCon 2018!
Moda is off to Pasadena, California this week for the Modern Quilt Guild's QuiltCon Quilt Show & Conference.
QuiltCon 2018 for short. Or QuiltCon West. These were some of the spectacular quilts exhibited at QuiltCon East 2017 in Savannah, Georgia.
This year's show returns to Pasadena with several Special Exhibits including Modern Inspirations: Art Quilts from the 1970s Through Today and The AIDS Memorial Quilt: The Names Project. There are Classes & Workshops with an outstanding Faculty that includes Carolyn Friedlander, Jacquie Gering, Mary Fons and Amy Ellis.
The Featured Speaker for this year is Carolyn Friedlander - an exceptional designer, artist and quilter. This is Rin.
There is a Vendor Hall with Exhibitors - Kaari Meng and French General will be there! So will the Moda Bake Shop - the crew will be Booth No. 602 celebrating Ombré and Ombré Confetti Metallic with Vanessa Christenson of V & Co..
This Abacus quilt will be there - it's one of Vanessa's new designs.
These are some of the lovely Ombré Confetti Metallic colors. (There are twenty of them and they're being reprinted and restocked now... they flew out of the warehouse!)
This is Ombré Lattice, another one of Vanessa's new quilts for this Confetti Metallic collection. Though it could be made with her beautiful Ombrés.
Moda is also on the list of Sponsors and is the Sponsor of this year's Best of Show Prize. The winner in 2017 was Bling by Katherine Jones of Tasmania, Australia.
Bling was inspired by the facets on a princess-cut diamond. It was machine-pieced and paper-pieced, machine-quilted without a frame, meaning that the quilt moved under a stationary needle, such as on a domestic or mid-arm machine not mounted with a frame.
(Katherine also designed and created the winning quilt in the Moda Bella Challenge of last year.)
So are you headed to Pasadena and QuiltCon this week?
If you need a little bit of incentive... there will be a book signing on Saturday at Noon in Booth No. 624 - Intown Quilters that's a "can't miss".
Oh, Scrap! This is a terrific book by Lissa Alexander - scrap-quilter extraordinaire and the Moda Director of Marketing. Since this book won't be out until March 1st, this is a great chance to get it early. And signed! (We'll be sharing more of this book in March.)
So if you're there, come say Hi! And if you're not able to attend QuiltCon, I think there's a pretty good chance we'll have a few pictures to share.
Happy Tuesday!
