Celebrating 50 Years of Moda Fabrics: A Milestone, A Fabric Collection, and an Exciting Quilt Contest!

At Moda Fabrics, we are beyond thrilled to commemorate our 50th anniversary—a milestone that represents five decades of creativity, community, and quality. As we reflect on our journey, we want to celebrate with the people who have made it all possible: YOU, the quilters who inspire us every day. To mark this special occasion, we are launching a limited-edition fabric collection and a quilt contest that invites quilters of all ages and skill levels to create something extraordinary.

 

The "Celebrating 50 Years of Moda" Fabric Collection

For half a century, Moda Fabrics has been synonymous with quality and innovation in the quilting industry. To honor this legacy, we’ve curated a special fabric collection that embodies the rich history, timeless designs, and vibrant colors that Moda is known for. The "Celebrating 50 Years of Moda" collection is a tribute to the artistry of quilting, blending classic prints with fresh, modern twists that will inspire quilters across generations.

The collection features a stunning array of 11 fabrics that showcase the versatility and beauty of Moda’s design heritage. From traditional florals and paisleys to bold geometrics and contemporary motifs, each fabric is carefully crafted featuring 4 different designers to reflect the essence of Moda over the years. Whether you’re drawn to the nostalgic charm of vintage-inspired prints or the bold appeal of modern designs, this collection has something for everyone. The fabrics in this collection are perfect for a wide range of quilting projects, from intricate pieced quilts to expressive art quilts and everything in between. And what better way to celebrate our 50th anniversary than by creating a quilt that tells your own story using these specially designed fabrics? 44 different Moda designers are featured throughout.

 The Quilt Contest: Stitch Your Story into History

In honor of our 50th anniversary, we are hosting a quilt contest that invites you to showcase your creativity, skills, and love for quilting. The "Celebrating 50 Years of Moda" quilt contest is a chance for quilters of all ages and experience levels to participate in a challenge that celebrates the art of quilting while competing for some truly exciting prizes.

Categories:

1. Pieced Quilt:

   - Create an original design using traditional piecing methods.

2. Art Quilt:

   - Let your creativity shine with an original design that can feature traditional or modern techniques, including 3D accents, applique, and foundation paper piecing.

3. Next Generation Quilter:

   - A special category for youth quilters, 17 years old or younger, to showcase their talent.

Rules and Requirements:

- Size Requirements:

  - Pieced and Next Generation categories: Quilts must be at least 60" square.

  - Art category: Quilts must be at least 45" square.

  - All quilts must not exceed 85" x 90". 

- Fabric Usage:

  - At least 75% of the quilt top must be made with fabrics from the "Celebrating 50 Years of Moda" collection.

  - The entire quilt top, backing, and binding must be made with Moda fabrics.

- Construction:

  - Quilts must be quilted and bound. Tied quilts or unquilted tops will not be accepted. 

- Submission:

  - Submit up to three clear photos of your quilt, including one of the full quilt.

  - Initial judging will be based on these photos. If selected, you’ll be contacted for in-person judging details.

Prizes:

- First Place:$2,500

-Second Place:$1,000

-Third Place: One Moda fat quarter bundle each month for a year

First, second, and third place winners will be chosen for each category.

Who Can Enter?

- Quilters of all ages and backgrounds who are passionate about fabric and storytelling through quilting. Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Moda or new to our fabrics, if you love creating quilts that tell a story, this contest is for you!

Timeline:

- The "Celebrating 50 Years of Moda" collection will be available in stores starting end of September 2024.

- The online entry form will open on September 1, 2024.

- The deadline to complete the entry form and submit your quilt photos is March 1, 2025.

- Qualifying entries for in-person judging will be notified in early April 2025.

- Winners will be announced at Fall Quilt Market in October 2025.

- You can find the "Celebrating 50 Years of Moda" fabric collection at your favorite quilt shops. Be sure to remember where you purchased your fabric—we’ll ask for this information in your entry form!
